Zhai Xuanhong's current creating philosophy is "subtracting outside, adding inside". Therefore, he consciously removed the strong color, and white is the most in line with his state of mind.
The thin white is the bright part, while the thickness is the dark. It’s a different creating way to complete an artwork through the subtle contrast of pure white with traditional oil painting techniques. In addition, white is the most environmentally susceptible color: the white “Scenery” series also grows and changes as the sun's trajectory changes, "between the visible and the hidden", experiencing its life cycle every day.

There is a strong metaphor for the modern metropolis in the “New Series”. His works contains not only pigments piling of various shapes and instantaneous pulling out, but also focus changing through adjusting color. Using a seemingly industrial approach, he stacked the neonlight tubes shaped pigments on the canvas, on which he would then style and color carefully in a seemingly tiring way, as if to give the picture a three-dimensional look,  or to find a sense of existence bit by bit in the complex metropolitan life.
