RELAXATION & REACTION: Yao Hongbin Solo Exhibition

Overview

Yao Hongbin's paintings from 2021 onwards, apart from the graphic composition of the images on paper, use the production process and symbolic one-piece structure to experience the pulse of Shanghai's abstraction in the last twenty to thirty years, other, major oil paintings, from 21-0918, 0921, 0925 bark-like repetition of brush strokes to March 2022, a set of color, brush strokes gradual formation of cooperation, stretching, the separation of factors occurred but not necessarily towards the 2023 landscape like interplay of lines, but this line color gathering and scattering embryo into the destruction of the closed surface, the destruction of the natural cracking of the closed surface that cut off access to the sensory path.

Certainly, what emerges after the fracturing is merely an alternative facade, unveiling the silhouette of purported ontological conflicts. Individuals accustomed to the notion of "seeing is believing" may consider anything that establishes a "visual relationship" with the eyes as superficial. Likewise, one may argue that everything detestable in the world and all that it harbors is nothing more than surface. Consequently, it should be asserted that the portion rendered invisible to the eyes—the realm right before them—must inevitably engage in visual reasoning that delves into the abyss. The technical means by which this deduction is actualized resides within the enigmatic realm betwixt artifice and authenticity, evoking an unsettling appearance that potentially signifies the artist's resolute struggle for emancipation.
